Introducing the Library Card+

A library card is free. In a city where a family outing costs real money— museum tickets, pool admission, even printing a form— the library is one of the last places in Vancouver where you belong without opening your wallet.

We think that card should do a lot more.

Vancouver used to have the Inspiration Pass: a free library pass that got families into museums, galleries, and rec centres. People loved it. They loved it so much there were waitlists months long — a lottery that rewarded whoever refreshed the page fastest.

Library Card Plus fixes that. Every free VPL card becomes a front door to the city: monthly passes to museums, theatres, pools, and rinks, plus printing credits, Wi-Fi hotspots, device lending, and free meeting rooms for community groups, pre-loaded onto your account and distributed through all 21 library branches. No lottery. No waitlist. Deeper benefits for seniors, youth, newcomers, and anyone just trying to enjoy the city we live in.

Ken Sim's "0% tax increase" isn't free: you pay for it in user fees and squeezed services. That's a pay-to-play version of public life. We think joy isn't a luxury. It's part of what makes a city worth living in.
